About
The houses and housing sites listed here are part of Heartland, Inc. Heartland is a land-holding community created in the late 1970’s. There are 10 shareholders in Heartland. Each shareholder has rights to a 10-acre site on which to put up a house. Rights to the sites are guaranteed through a long-term lease. In addition to the 100 acres of the leased sites, Heartland, Inc. has 700 acres maintained as open space. Heartland shareholders share common values of respect for each other and the land, a desire to work collectively to maintain the total property, and a commitment to minimize our impacts on the earth.
There are 800 total acres. As a community, we collectively maintain main dirt roads, liability insurance for the total acreage, and fire insurance on individual sites if requested by lessees. All shareholders are included on the Board of Directors, which meets quarterly.
